Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center, Downtown Punta Gorda, Florida. Special projects for me are a must. I have done paintings for uplifting a community in distress, like painting this mural for Punta Gorda after hurricane Charlie ripped through this area and their community events center was destroyed. After having the town rebuilt, it was only a matter of time before they needed to move from their temporary tent space for community functions, affectionately called the ‘Tentatorium’, to now having a 20 million dollar building erected for all functions from weddings to the Charlotte County Philharmonic being able to play there. I contacted the County directly and offered to do the main lobby mural for them so all could enjoy. Having decided they wanted an underwater scene, I chose some of the local fish and mammals to place in this fantastic mural. I finished it off with silver leafing for the scales of the fish and the reflections of their eyes. The main dolphin in this piece looks real and he is quite a site to see in person. The people I met while painting this were so friendly and happy. I aim to please and was genuinely touched by so many stories of how their lives have been renewed. |

Text from Muhlenberg College, November 2006: This year, Arts Week was proud to adopt a mission of
AIDS awareness and education by partnering with a group led by the College’s Hillel organization and San Priest, a local artist and spouse of Dr. Simon Priest, our Dean of the Wescoe
School, here
at Muhlenberg. The Arts Week team was able to give a monetary donation and an 18-foot mural created by members of the Muhlenberg College community and San Priest titled “Hope for a Breakthrough
Cure on the Horizon” to the AIDS clinic at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in downtown Allentown, PA. Notice the way the letters HIV Morph into the word AIDS. This was done to show the way
no one wants to
be diagnosed with HIV and then have it develop into full blown AIDS. This painting is still hanging in the hospital to give hope and comfort to patients, family, friends and staff. |
